American Express Unveils NFT Travel Stamps

American Express launches blockchain-based tokens for travelers, allowing them to commemorate their journeys.

American Express has announced the launch of Ethereum-based travel stamps as part of its updated travel app, aimed at commemorating travel experiences. These tokens, essentially NFTs (ERC-721 tokens), are minted and recorded on Coinbase’s Base network. Colin Marlowe, VP at Amex Digital Labs, explained that these travel stamps can be collected whenever customers use their cards, but they are not tradable tokens nor function as loyalty points.

“It’s a valueless ERC-721, so technically an NFT, but we didn’t classify it as such. We wanted to present it in a way that aligns with the travel experience itself,” said Marlowe in an interview.

He also mentioned that the stamps could foster unique partnerships in the future. The app will offer various tools for travelers, including Centurion Lounge upgrades.

What to Know:

  • The travel stamps are merely symbolic and have no monetary value.
  • The updated app offers numerous travel tools.
