Crypto Influencer Found Dead After Suffering Kidnapping in Montreal
Kevin Mirshahi, a crypto influencer, was discovered dead in Montreal months after his abduction. A woman has been charged in connection with his murder.
A body found in Île-de-la-Visitation park, Montreal, on October 30, has been identified as missing crypto influencer Kevin Mirshahi. Reports from November 12 confirmed this information from the Montreal Gazette.
Mirshahi, 25, was reported missing after being kidnapped on June 21, alongside three others, of whom two women and one man were located shortly after. In August, Joanie Lepage, 32, was charged with first-degree murder and the abduction.
At the time of his disappearance, Mirshahi was managing a crypto investment scheme called Crypto Paradise Island on Telegram, which provided paid investment advice. This venture was also linked to a pump-and-dump scheme involving a token named Marsan ($MRS). Many young investors, primarily aged between 16 and 20, lost significant amounts invested in this scheme.
In 2021, Mirshahi was under investigation by Quebec's investment regulator, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), due to allegations of fraudulent practices and had been banned from operating in the investment space.
Despite these restrictions, reports indicate he continued his Telegram activities promoting cryptocurrency investments.
Recently, Canada has experienced a rise in physical crimes associated with cryptocurrency, including kidnappings. This is part of a broader trend, as highlighted by Jameson Lopp, who has documented numerous incidents over the year, including attempted thefts and assaults.
