Ethereum Foundation Launches New AI Initiative for Payment Coordination
The Ethereum Foundation has established a new division to address AI integration into payment systems, spearheaded by research scientist Davide Crapis.
Key Highlights:
- The Ethereum Foundation has initiated the dAI Team, focusing on the synergy between blockchain and AI technologies.
- Led by research scientist Davide Crapis, this team will prioritize facilitating AI-driven transactions and establishing a decentralized AI framework.
- They will further develop ERC-8004, a standard aimed at validating AI agent trustworthiness.
The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is launching a specialized AI division known as the dAI Team to enhance Ethereum’s role as a foundational layer for what is referred to as the “machine economy.” This initiative was disclosed by research scientist Davide Crapis on social media.
Crapis articulated that the new team is tasked with two primary objectives: enabling AI agents to process payments and coordinate actions autonomously without intermediary oversight, and constructing a decentralized AI architecture devoid of reliance on few dominant firms. The team underscores Ethereum’s innate characteristics such as neutrality, verifiability, and resistance to censorship.
Ethereum Foundation Overview
The EF operates as a non-profit entity located in Zug, Switzerland, dedicated to supporting the evolution of the Ethereum blockchain. Although it does not exert control over the network, it plays a vital role in funding and organizing developmental initiatives. Its missions encompass backing upgrades such as Ethereum 2.0 and community-centric programs linked to the ecosystem.
In 2025, the EF underwent restructuring to cater to Ethereum’s expanding ecosystem, emphasizing the establishment of specialized groups that will engage in cutting-edge technology development.
Crapis’s Leadership Role
As the head of the newly formed dAI Team, Crapis aims to bridge the work of this group with the EF’s protocol development and support initiatives, asserting, “Ethereum enhances the reliability of AI, while AI augments Ethereum’s utility.” The team will be devoted to fostering public interest projects at the cross-section of AI and blockchain technology.
