Strategy's Bitcoin Holdings Hit $77.4 Billion as BTC Approaches $120,000
Strategy's Bitcoin treasury has achieved a remarkable valuation of $77.4 billion, surpassing some major banks and matching the GDP of several nations.
Strategy Inc., run by Michael Saylor, has recently reported that its Bitcoin treasury is valued at an impressive $77.4 billion, a figure that not only exceeds the capitalization of many large banks but also parallels the GDP of various countries.
“Our journey began with $0.25 billion in Bitcoin — and an immediate $0.04 billion unrealized loss,” Saylor remarked on Thursday, indicating that Strategy’s Bitcoin assets have nearly doubled since last year.
This surge comes as Bitcoin prices have returned to around $120,000. Although this is a 3% drop from its all-time high in mid-August, Strategy’s valuation leap is attributed to its acquisition of 11,085 BTC in just over a month. Its latest addition was 196 BTC purchased on Monday.
Strategy’s holdings now hold a greater worth than several notable financial institutions such as BNY Mellon, Sberbank, US Bancorp, CIBC, ING, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, ANZ Bank, and Lloyds.
A Stash Larger than Some Nations’ GDP
Strategy currently retains 640,031 BTC, accounting for 3.2% of the total Bitcoin supply. The closest competitor in Bitcoin holdings, MARA Holdings, possesses 52,477 BTC valued at roughly $6.3 billion.
The vast value of $77 billion allows for purchases amounting to about 2.5 million cars at the price of $30,000 each, or 385,000 homes at $200,000 each.
Additionally, the treasury’s worth is comparable to the GDP of countries such as Uruguay, Sri Lanka, and Slovenia, illustrating its significant economic impact.
El Salvador’s Bitcoin Holdings Close to ATH
El Salvador holds the largest Bitcoin stash among nations, with 6,338 BTC valuing around $762.5 million. This figure is shy of its previous high of nearly $770 million from mid-August, as the country has been adding to its holdings at a slower rate of one BTC daily amid ongoing discussions about whether any new investments have been made.
Strategy Holds a Major Stake in Bitcoin Wealth
At present, total BTC held by public and private entities reaches 1.32 million BTC, representing 6.6% of the total supply, equivalent to around $159 billion at market rates. Remarkably, Strategy controls about 48% of this total, maintaining its supremacy in Bitcoin treasury holdings.
