Tether has announced its nominations for the board of directors of Juventus, confirming earlier reports. The nominees include its deputy chief investment officer, Zachary Lyons, and Francesco Garino, an orthodontist and ardent supporter of the club. This follows Tether’s investments totaling 10.7% in Juventus made earlier this year in February and April.
According to a statement from Tether, “Since announcing our investment in the Club, Tether has listened carefully to the voices of fans from Italy and across the whole world, receiving invaluable suggestions, feedback, and calls for deeper engagement.”
Additionally, Tether stressed their plans to engage more actively, suggesting amendments to by-laws and aiming to improve governance and minority representation.
Tether’s CEO, Paolo Ardoino, reiterated their commitment to revitalizing the club with a nod to Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, saying, “Make Juventus Great Again.”
The nominations will be put to a vote at an upcoming shareholder meeting on November 7. This decision comes after previous scandals within the Juventus management, leading to the resignation of the board in November 2022 amid financial fraud allegations involving player salaries.
Beyond sports, Tether has also made other significant investments, including $775 million in the video-sharing platform Rumble, and has plans for a large acquisition in the artificial intelligence sector.
