Polygon's Sandeep Nailwal Questions Ethereum Loyalty Amid Criticism
Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, voices frustration towards the Ethereum community and its lack of recognition for Polygon's contributions, leading to a response from Vitalik Buterin.
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal has expressed disappointment with Ethereum’s leadership regarding its recognition of Polygon as a legitimate layer 2 solution. He pointed out that despite Polygon’s significant contributions, the Ethereum community has generally overlooked these efforts. Nailwal stated that he is reconsidering his commitment to Ethereum, specifically criticizing the Ethereum Foundation’s lack of support. He mentioned:
“In fact, the reverse,” Nailwal said, implying that his support for Ethereum might have cost Polygon billions in valorization.
He further remarked on the Ethereum community’s discord, urging it to self-reflect:
“The Ethereum community as a whole has been a shit show for quite some time,”
This statement prompted a response from Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, who acknowledged Polygon’s achievements within the Ethereum framework. Nailwal noted that he is not alone in his sentiments, as other industry figures like Raj Gokal and Austin Federa suggested that Polygon might benefit from alliances with rival networks.
Buterin also commended Polygon’s advancements in technologies such as zk-EVM and highlighted the platform’s role in decentralized prediction markets. However, he pointed out that Polygon currently does not meet the security protocols expected of Ethereum layer 2s. In his response, Buterin indicated that Polygon could implement available ZK technology to ensure a more secure proof system.
