Polymarket Restricts Access for French Users Amid Legal Scrutiny

Investigation into Polymarket highlights legal issues in France as the prediction market blocks access to French traders.

Polymarket has blocked access to its platform for users in France, following reports that the French government is investigating the prediction markets giant to ensure compliance with gambling laws.

The restriction was not mentioned in Polymarket's terms of service at the time of writing. On Friday, a reporter attempted to connect to the website from a French server via a VPN and encountered a digital barrier.

Polymarket recently attracted scrutiny from France's national gaming authority (ANJ) after a trader based in France placed significant bets on Donald Trump winning the 2024 U.S. Presidential election.

The recent ban was initially reported on social media by the French cryptocurrency news outlet, The Big Whale. Polymarket has yet to address requests for clarification, nor has the ANJ commented on the situation.
