Rising Odds for SBF’s Pardon

Currently, the betting platform Polymarket reflects a 12% likelihood that former FTX chief, Sam Bankman-Fried, will receive a presidential pardon this year. This comes after a recent pardon was granted to Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the founder of Binance, by US President Donald Trump.

In less than half a day, SBF’s betting odds jumped from 5.6% to 12%, buoyed by over $6.5 million in wagers placed on this market, which includes $302,090 specifically for SBF, labeled a convicted crypto fraudster.

CZ’s Pardon Confirmed

In notable news, President Trump has officially pardoned Zhao, ending months of discussions and appeals from both the crypto exchange and its previous CEO, as reported on Thursday by The Wall Street Journal. The pardon was signed last Wednesday; however, official confirmation has yet to be published by the White House.

Previously, Zhao confessed to one charge related to failing to uphold anti-money laundering practices at Binance. After being sentenced to four months in prison in April 2024, he was released by September.

In response to the pardon, Binance stated:

“Incredible news of CZ’s pardon today. We thank President Trump for his leadership and for his commitment to making the US the crypto capital of the world.”

Revolut Obtains MiCA License in Cyprus

Additionally, Revolut has achieved a MiCA license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), allowing it to offer regulated crypto services throughout the European Economic Area. With this new licensing, Revolut aims to broaden its influence in the crypto market with a new platform referred to as “Crypto 2.0”.

Costas Michael, CEO of Revolut Digital Assets Europe, remarked on this license, emphasizing its role in enhancing product transparency and reliability.

The MiCA license permits Revolut to operate its entire line of crypto offerings under regulatory guidelines, catering to over 65 million customers, including 40 million in Europe.
