Leading Bitcoin mining companies have seen an uptick in their stock prices after Jane Street disclosed its new holdings on Thursday, further pushing a steady climb in mining stocks.
Crypto mining shares surged on Friday as firms like Bitfarms, Cipher Mining, and Hut 8 continued their gains following the announcement that Jane Street made substantial investments in all three.
Filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission revealed that Jane Street’s trading affiliates hold approximately 5.4% of Bitfarms, 5% of Cipher Mining, and 5% of Hut 8, indicating passive rather than activist investments.
Following this disclosure, shares climbed 8% to 13% on Thursday and kept rising on Friday. As of the market’s close on Friday, Bitfarms (BITF) appreciated by 10.68%, Cipher Mining (CIFR) by 19.73%, and Hut 8 (HUT) by approximately 17.27%, according to Yahoo Finance data.
In addition to these companies, other Bitcoin mining stocks enjoyed gains as well including American Bitcoin Corp. (+11.29%), IREN Limited (+12.60%), and Hive Digital Technologies (+17.77%).
Jane Street, a prominent trading firm engaged in both equities and digital assets, first showed interest in Bitcoin miners in 2023 through its investment in Marathon Digital (MARA).
This revelation comes on the heels of Google’s announcement of its acquisition of a 5.4% stake in Cipher Mining on September 25.
Bitcoin Mining Companies Outperform Bitcoin in 2025
Bitcoin mining, the technique of deploying specialized computers to solve intricate mathematical issues for transaction verification and introducing new Bitcoin, is essential for the operational integrity and security of the network.
While occasional solo miners may find success in mining a block, the industry is largely characterized by Bitcoin mining firms, the majority of which have experienced notable growth throughout 2025.
In the past year, various Bitcoin mining firms have outperformed Bitcoin itself. For instance, Bitfarms has surged nearly 131%, and Hut 8 has increased by around 211% over the last 12 months, while Bitcoin has appreciated roughly 73% over the same period.
