The memecoin factory Pump.fun has disabled access for U.K. cryptocurrency traders as of Friday, citing “laws and regulations” that are impacting its operations.
This geoblocking comes shortly after the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the main financial regulator in the U.K., warned that the platform may be providing or promoting financial services without the necessary permissions. One of the founders of Pump.fun acknowledged the blockade but refrained from providing further comments.
Since its launch earlier this year, Pump.fun has emerged as the primary platform for launching memecoins on the Solana blockchain, resulting in multiple billion-dollar successes such as PNUT and WIF. To date, it has generated over $250 million for its creators, who established the application in the U.K.
Following the announcement of the ban, traders quickly attempted to exploit the situation by creating humorous cryptocurrencies based on the news. However, none of these new assets gained traction as of the latest updates.
