Wintermute's CEO Dismisses Lawsuit Claims as Unfounded
Evgeny Gaevoy, CEO of Wintermute, has rebutted persistent rumors of legal action against Binance, clarifying that his firm never intended to pursue such a lawsuit.
Evgeny Gaevoy, the CEO of Wintermute, has strongly refuted ongoing rumors regarding possible legal actions against Binance that have surged since the liquidation event on October 10. In a statement made on the social media platform X, Gaevoy emphasized that Wintermute had never considered suing Binance and that there has been no shift in their stance since his initial comments after the incident.
The Alleged Lawsuit Against Binance
This clarification comes in response to various posts from anonymous market analysts who suggested that Wintermute was seeking restitution linked to losses from Binance’s Auto-Deleveraging mechanism during the aforementioned crash. Gaevoy responded directly, labeling the rumor as a ‘baseless claim.’
The October incident has been noted as the largest liquidation in cryptocurrency history, igniting considerable discussions regarding the role of major market makers during forced unwinding events. Although Binance revealed a recovery plan costing $283 million to support those affected, it remains unconfirmed if Wintermute received any aid from the exchange. Gaevoy previously mentioned that after the event, the firm was in good health.
Amid ongoing speculation, another narrative also gained traction suggesting that Binance and Wintermute collaborated to benefit from the liquidation event. However, these assertions lack any public evidence and allege preemptive asset transfers from Binance to Wintermute before significant market declines.
CZ’s Response
Binance co-founder CZ addressed the unfounded rumors, tweeting, “If someone made you believe otherwise, it’s time to click unfollow.”
This response indicates that despite rampant speculation, both Binance and Wintermute have not acknowledged any sort of legal or operational conflict between them.
