ZKsync Developer Proposes Revamped Governance Token for Enhanced Economic Utility

The co-creator of ZKsync suggests a new approach for its governance token that emphasizes economic utility and value capture.

The co-creator of ZKsync, Alex Gluchowski, has made a case for a significant change to the project’s governance token in order to inject it with “economic utility”.

In a recent forum post, he expressed that although the current governance token was useful during the early development phase of ZKsync, the project has advanced substantially since those days.

Gluchowski highlighted ZKsync’s network, which now includes an ecosystem of interlinked zero-knowledge chains, and emphasized the necessity for the token to reflect this evolution by ensuring it captures network value and promotes adoption.

“The goal is to align usage with value, make decentralization economically sustainable, and ensure the network captures a meaningful share of the economic benefits it creates.”

As the CEO of Matter Labs, the company behind ZKsync, Gluchowski underscored the importance of channeling funds back into the network’s economy for consistent upgrades and public funding.

He elaborated on his vision for the new tokenomics, stating that the restructured ZK token would gain value from various sources, including native protocol fees and licensing agreements for enterprise software.

Furthermore, nominal cash flows would feed into a governance-controlled structure aimed at sustainability and growth.

The timeline for implementing these changes remains uncertain, with Gluchowski soliciting community feedback via social media.

More details will follow as the conversation develops.
