Is XRP Just a Bank in Disguise? Analysts Debate Ripple's Real Position

A discussion emerges in the crypto community about whether XRP is a genuine crypto asset or just a traditional bank in a different form, prompted by recent critiques from prominent figures.

Ripple’s native cryptocurrency, XRP, has cultivated a significant community, but it also faces considerable criticism regarding its foundational mechanisms. As its popularity has soared over the years, reactions become fierce whenever notable figures in the cryptocurrency sector express negativity towards XRP.

A Bank in Disguise?

Renowned crypto analyst Davinci Jeremie, known for his early Bitcoin advocacy, posted a message on X, criticizing XRP for attributes that could make it appear as a “bank in disguise.” He pointed out potential issues like hidden leverage, illusory decentralization, withdrawable locks, insider advantages, and users tied to wrapped IOUs. In contrast, he claimed Bitcoin avoids these pitfalls.

“Your favorite cryptocurrency is merely a bank dressed in a hoodie.”

Jeremie’s remarks triggered a wave of backlash, with comments ranging from vehement support for XRP as the ideal cryptocurrency, to doubts about its authenticity, as some called it a poor imitation of Bitcoin.

Time for XRP to Shine?

They observed that each year has begun with high expectations but often fallen short—until now, with 2023 marking a pivotal moment in the SEC lawsuit. Looking ahead, members express optimism not just for 2025 but also for an upcoming 2026.
