Leadership Shake-Up at CFTC under Trump

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission sees significant changes as Caroline Pham, appointed by Donald Trump, restructures its leadership.

U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Caroline Pham, who has recently taken the reins of the agency as President Donald Trump returned to the White House, has initiated a significant reshuffle of the agency’s upper management.

The changes in staff, with each departure substituted by interim officials appointed by Pham, are expected to impact cryptocurrency regulation under the U.S. derivatives agency.

Notably, Harry Jung, the CFTC’s new acting chief of staff, has been assigned a vital role in liaising with the cryptocurrency sector.

Pham’s announcement included numerous senior officials’ exits, among them the general counsel and heads of various divisions such as enforcement and market oversight. These changes are timely, as Congress prepares to draft a crypto bill which may enhance the CFTC’s responsibilities.

“I’m pleased to announce CFTC leadership changes with the beginning of the new administration,” Pham remarked. “I appreciate the decades of service from all officials and thank our talented staff stepping up to serve on an interim basis.”

The newly appointed acting general counsel, chief of staff, and public-affairs director have all been drawn from Pham’s commissioner team: Meghan Tente, Taylor Foy, and Harry Jung respectively. The legislative office will be managed by Nicholas Elliot, who previously provided policy advice to her.

Briang Young, a former Department of Justice employee, will handle the interim enforcement director role.
