Ethereum Expert Dankrad Feist Joins Stripe’s Tempo Initiative

Dankrad Feist, a prominent Ethereum Foundation researcher, is transitioning to Tempo, a blockchain project developed by Stripe, while continuing his advisory role at Ethereum.

Dankrad Feist, recognized for his contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem, announced on Friday his new role at Tempo, a blockchain project designed for payments and stablecoins. Developed by Stripe and Paradigm, Tempo shares values aligned with Ethereum.

Feist will continue to serve as a research adviser to the Ethereum Foundation, focusing on scaling the network and enhancing user experience. He emphasized:

“Tempo’s open-source technology can easily integrate back into Ethereum, benefiting the entire ecosystem. Ethereum and Tempo are strongly aligned, as they are built with the same permissionless ideals in mind.”

I look forward to remaining engaged with the community and advancing Ethereum further.

This move sparked varied reactions within the Ethereum community, with supporters welcoming the change while others expressed concerns over losing a vital contributor during a pivotal time for the sector.

Crypto Community Divided on Tempo Blockchain

The crypto community’s stance on Tempo remains mixed, with debates on whether a dedicated stablecoin blockchain is necessary. Joe Petrich, from NFT platform Courtyard, remarked that there is “no need for yet another chain,” responding to the announcement from Patrick Collison.

Moreover, Ethereum Foundation researcher Devansh Mehta raised questions about Tempo’s creation as a separate blockchain rather than as an Ethereum layer-2. He pointed out the needs for a robust validation structure and the risks of centralization and legal issues for such specific blockchain projects.

This discussion arises amidst increasing tension between Ethereum and its layer-2 solutions, which some view as undermining the core Ethereum network.
